The Oakland Athletics are one of the most decorated teams in MLB history. They have won nine World Series championships – that is the third most in the MLB only behind the New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals. Their dynasty began in 1901 as one of the American League’s eight charter franchises. They began in Philadelphia as the Philadelphia Athletics. It did not take long for this Philadelphia team to experience success. From 1910-191, the Athletics won three World Series championships. After that there was a short dry spell, but greatness struck again when the Athletics won back to back Wild Series titles in 1929 and 1930. In the first fifty years of the franchise’s play, the Athletics saw many Hall of Fame players on their roster including Chief Bender, Frank “Home Run” Baker, Jimmie Foxx, and Lefty Grove. Then in 1955, the Athletics left Philly and headed for Kansas City. Now the team was known as the Kansas City Athletics. This new Kansas City team did not experience as much success as the Athletics had in previous years, so then in 1968 the team moved yet again. Its knew location was Oakland, California to make the team that is now known as the Oakland Athletics. Since the first home game in California in 1968, the Athletics have called the Oakland – Alameda County Coliseum their home playing field. This move proved to be extremely wise, as the Athletics won three consecutive World Series in 1972, 1973, and 1974. These World Series title teams were led by Vida Blue, Catfish Hunter, Reggie Jackson, and Rollie Fingers. The Athletics’ next World Series title was in 1989 – making their number of championships a grand total of nine.
Despite having nine World Series titles, the Athletics have not won a title since 1989. Will this be the year the Athletics could win their tenth? The A’s will be firstly looking for their first playoff appearance since 2014. Currently in the AL West, the A’s are in second place only behind the Houston Astros. They are ahead of their division rivals the Seattle Mariners, the Los Angeles Angels, and the Texas Rangers. The Athletics last regular season game will be on September 30th with a game against the Angels at Angel Stadium. If the Athletics continue to play with the same tenacity that they have played with all season, it is likely they will secure a spot in the postseason. If you want to see your favorite team fight to make it to the playoffs, then you have come to the right place. TicketNetwork has a vast array of Oakland Athletics tickets for you to choose from.
