Whether Broncos fans like it or not, the keys to the franchise now belong to Drew Lock. A second-round draft choice in 2019, Lock got the starting role late in the season for the Broncos. With low expectations, Lock started the last five games of the season and finished with a 4-1 record. The offseason acquisition of Melvin Gordon improved the running back depth for Denver, and on top of that they want after very talented wide recievers in the draft. With the fifteenth overall pick, the Broncos selected Jerry Jeudy from Alabama, the top rated prospect at the position. In the second round, they chose KJ Hamler from Penn State, a true deep ball threat. These two rookies will join breakout star Courtland Sutton on the depth chart and the Broncos should have a high powered offense. On defense, Von Miller and Bradley Chubb can pressure the quarterback all game long. Find Denver Broncos tickets today to see one of the most talented teams in the NFL!
A charter member of the American Football League, the Denver Broncos franchise was born in 1960. Early struggles during their AFL and early NFL football seasons plagued the franchise for 17 years. In 1977, the Broncos surprised the league by going to their first Super Bowl. Things were changing in the Mile High City, but it wasn't until 1983 that team history would be positively changed forever for the Broncos.
Denver acquired quarterback John Elway, who was originally selected in the NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts, to man the important position. In only his fourth year in the NFL, he was able to lead the team back to the Super Bowl for the second time. Then in his fifth season, back to the big game again. Then in his seventh season, once again. Each season the team came up short, and John Elway became known for not being able to win the big game.
But for great quarterbacks like John Elway, reputations can be changed in one game. With the addition of Terrell Davis in 1995, the Broncos once again became a force. In 1997, the team steamrolled their way through the football season on their way to a 12-4 NFL record. Once again the team was in the Super Bowl, but this time with a different result. The team beat the Green Bay Packers, capturing the franchise's first championship. Then the following season, the team flirted with perfection, finishing with a 14-2 record and their second championship in as many years.
